HeadRead Literary Festival

The HeadRead literary festival brings together international, as well as local authors to exchange ideas with each other and the local audience in various formats.

Panel discussions, talks, literary walks, competitions and much more take place in the springtime in Tallinn, and so it has been for over a decade.

The festival aims to introduce new and established favourite authors to different audiences, but also to attract new audiences to literature and to provide a space, where diverse linguistic and cultural communities can meet and discuss themes and genres in literature. There are storytellers for children, who visit Russian-speaking schools and kindergartens and have events in Tallinn. Some of the highlights of the festival have been visits by Antonia Byatt, Tom Stoppard, William Boyd, David Mitchell, Margaret Atwood and Michel Faber amongst others.
