British Council Estonia and Just Film Festival – the largest sub-festival of Tallinn’s famed Black Nights Film Festival – have been introducing thousands of school children from Ida-Virumaa to the magic of movies over the last few years.
And these have not been just any movies – it’s a curated programme of new youth cinema – films about the lives of children and young people all over the world. Topics touch upon school bullying, building friendships, peer pressure, following one’s dreams, etc. – all issues which children and youth would have the first-hand experience in.
Screenings are followed by moderated discussions looking into the questions that the movies raise. Screening visits are organised in co-operation with teachers from schools in Ida-Virumaa, who are invited to continue discussing the topics also in class afterwards. In 2018, we are very happy to support over 2,000 school students taking part in the programme.
